Treating Mind and Spirit as One

Certificate Program in Spiritually-Informed Psychotherapies

2016 Certificate Program

This year, the Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute is partnering with the Interfaith Center of New York to offer an inaugural summertime certificate program in spiritually-informed psychotherapy.

Our 2016 program gives qualified clinicians an opportunity to undertake a structured and sustained study of the many intersections between spiritual wisdom and psychological insight. In a seminar setting, students will consider a wide array of topics relevant to practice, incorporating spiritual perspectives into each.

Classroom conversations will be led by expert teachers. Assigned readings, experiential exercises, and discussion questions will give students the opportunity to explore the material in an intimate learning environment, while a final integrative paper will allow the students to apply what they have learned.

Learning Objectives

~ Conceptualizing the intersubjective spirituality that informs the clinical encounter
~ Developing a range of spiritual assessments and interventions
~ Understanding spiritual perspectives on distinct clinical concerns like intimacy and addiction
~ Expanding spiritual resources available to clinicians, both personally and professionally

Our Faculty

Faculty members include PSI staff and spiritual practitioners from the wider clinical community. It is an interdisciplinary faculty; in addition to clinical social workers, it includes psychoanalysts, pastoral counselors, and a clinical psychologist. They come from a variety of faith backgrounds, including Buddhist, Christian, and Jewish.
