Keynote Presentation by Mark Epstein, MD
PSI’s 2019 Annual Conference, “Mindful Therapy for Anxious Times,” was held on Saturday, January 12 at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan. Keynote speaker Mark Epstein, MD, led an instructional and experiential day-long conference exploring how mindful psychotherapy techniques can help manage and decrease anxiety, especially during times of turbulence and uncertainty. In the afternoon session, the following panelists described approaches to using mindfulness in psychotherapy practice:
Dr. Edmund Griffin, MD, on the neurobiological basis of emotion and mindfulness meditation. The slides from his presentation are available here.
Sarah Ward, LCSW, on how she integrates yoga into psychotherapy.
Charlotte Howorth, LCSW, on how tuning into the bodily “felt sense” using Focusing Oriented Therapy can lead to powerful shifts and new awarenesses. The slides from her presentation are available here.
Kim Schneiderman, LCSW, described Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a mindfulness therapy. The slides from her presentation are available here.
