Summer Certificate Program in Spiritually Informed Psychotherapies

Dates: The 2025 PSI Summer certificate program will be held over six sessions, beginning on June 11, and continuing on June 18, 25, & July 9, 16, 23*. Classes will take place each week on Wednesdays from 9 am – 12 pm ET.

*Please note: No classes are held between July 1 – July 5

2025 Certificate Program

The Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute is offering a summertime continuing clinical education certificate program in Spiritually-Informed Psychotherapies. This program gives qualified professionals providing mental health or pastoral care services an opportunity to holistically inform their practices through the study of the key intersections between spiritual wisdom and psychological insight.

Students will consider a wide array of topics relevant to practice, incorporating spiritual perspectives into each area. A brief final integrative paper will allow students to apply what they have learned to their own work.

This program is meant to enrich professionals’ clinical practice and deepen their understanding of how spiritual dynamics figure in holistic care. 18-CEC’s are available to NYSED certified LMSWs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs and LCATs. Graduates of the summer certificate program will become PSI alumni and program affiliates.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, clinicians will be able to:

1. Define and apply the core principles of Spiritually-Informed Psychotherapy (SIP) in clinical practice.
2. Conduct spiritual assessments using both explicit and implicit approaches to explore clients’ spiritual beliefs, struggles, and strengths.
3. Implement spiritually-informed clinical interventions, including meaning-making, ritual, contemplative practices, and spiritual self-compassion.
4. Address specialized topics such as spiritual trauma, grief, gender and sexuality, and depth psychology as they intersect with spirituality in therapy.
