The Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute (PSI) is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 1975, that helps restore hope, health and healing to individuals, families, groups, and communities, and organizations by providing professional counseling, consulting, and educational services to the people of New York City and beyond. Within its mission, PSI maintains the essential goal of providing programs, through special initiatives supported by grants and donations, that foster peace as well as healing in the wake of stress, conflict and crisis.
Through grants and special partnerships PSI has been enabled to reach out to individuals and communities in need. These services have included counseling for trauma and grief, community based psychotherapy; support groups and creative arts workshops; psycho-spiritual education; staff development and caring for a wide range of people from caregivers to business executives; and, career transition and job loss counseling and programming. Populations have included first responders and support staff post 9/11; returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan; victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita; Arab women, children and youth in Brooklyn; and a wide range of people suffering from economic strain.
We have partnered in these efforts with our four host congregations in Manhattan: Trinity Church Wall Street, St. John’s in the Village, St. Bartholomew, and Rutgers Presbyterian Church. In addition, PSI has worked with The American Red Cross, Project Liberty, New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS), the UN’s Temple of Understanding, United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Society for Healthcare and the Arts, The Arab American Association, the Arab American Family Support Center, Intersections International, Give an Hour; and Creative Education Foundation, among other community based organizations (CBO’s) and foundations.
