MBSR was established by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 in a clinical setting at the University of Massachusetts. As an experiential, evidence-based program, it is designed to give participants intensive and systematic training in meditation, mindfulness, movement practices, education about the effects and characteristics of perception, physical and psychological stress, resilience, and conscious communication.

Research for the past 40 years in Mindfulness-based training has shown positive results associated with mental health-related conditions including increased self-observation, attention and concentration, emotional regulation, and stress resilience. Multiple scientific studies corroborate the benefits related to the reduction in symptoms in some behavioral conditions and physical health, including anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, the ability and creativity to make decisions, better sleep, improved stress management, and heightened cognitive abilities. For mental health clinicians these benefits can support wellness, minimize burnout and provide a foundation for incorporating mindfulness and meditation into clinical practice.

MBSR for Clinicians is an opportunity for participants to have a direct experience of the MBSR curriculum for personal practice and provides a foundation for those clinicians interested in incorporating techniques of mindfulness into their clinical practices/settings. This course meets the prerequisite for those who are interested in entering the pathway to become MBSR teachers themselves.

Course learning objectives:

1. Develop the ability to cope more effectively with both short-term and long-term stressful situations, gaining an understanding of how to respond rather than react.
2. Learn a collection of informal and formal meditation and mindfulness practices and cultivate a system to integrate them into your everyday life.
3. Improve focus, resilience, and capacity to recover quickly from challenging events.
4. Cultivate greater balance, ease, and peace of mind. 5. Practice and apply mindfulness techniques in both personal and professional settings to effectively manage the demands of life and to increase positive and peaceful communication.
