How do we, as clinicians, engage the intersections of sexuality and spirituality when working with clients in consensually non-monogamous (CNM) relationships?

This three-hour workshop invites mental health practitioners to explore their own spiritual and sexual identities, deepen cultural and spiritual humility, and strengthen their capacity to work competently and compassionately with CNM clients.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Engage in generative self-of-the-therapist work—exploring spiritual and sexual identity development, and practicing cultural and spiritual humility.

  2. Use basic CNM terminology appropriately and understand diverse expressions of consensual non-monogamy.

  3. Develop a CNM- and spirituality-inclusive therapeutic framework within historical and modern contexts of colonialism.

  4. Help clients navigate perceived contradictions between spirituality and sexuality, including tensions arising within faith or family systems.
