Peggy Ann Barnett received her Ph.D. in educational psychology and M.S.Ed. in counseling from Fordham University. Dr. Barnett is a New York State licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) with broad training and experience as a psychotherapist. She brings both insight and skill to her work with adults and adolescents, especially those with adjustment issues. She has been recognized for her work helping young adults transition from military personnel to college. She is a volunteer therapist for Give an Hour, an organization that provides pro bono therapy for those who serve, veterans, and their families.

Understanding that human behavior is influenced by a variety of processes and systems, Dr. Barnett’s holistic approach is relational and integrative. She comes from a strengths-based perspective incorporating insights and techniques from various therapeutic traditions and evidence-based practices. She integrates cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques as well as humanistic-existential and family systems precepts in her work. She views life challenges and transitions through the lens of attachment and resilience and works to help her clients achieve more effective functioning and greater satisfaction. Dr. Barnett has participated in trainings and workshops in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Ackerman Institute for the Family, and EMDR treatment of trauma.

Celebrating the inherent strengths and resilience of adolescents and adults from diverse cultural, religious, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, Dr. Barnett demonstrates a concern for the well-being of individuals, couples and families. Furthermore, as a former executive in magazine advertising sales for 20 years, she is a seasoned professional who understands business and helps people optimize their career paths. Dr. Barnett’s warm and engaging manner fosters a collaborative alliance with her clients as they journey to restore hope, health, healing and happiness.
