Sasha Baken-Rennert, Rabbi, LMSW

Sasha Baken-Rennert (she/her) is a therapist at the Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute. As a social worker and ordained Reform rabbi, Sasha understands that our spiritual lives can be deeply meaningful, while also being complicated, painful, or even traumatic. Sasha creates a welcoming, nonjudgmental space for individuals and couples to explore the roles that spirituality, faith, and meaning play in their lives, whether they are sources of comfort, conflict, or both.

Sasha’s therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and integrative. She believes relationships are foundational to our wellbeing, and that healing and growth happen in the context of meaningful connection. She trusts that each person carries their own wisdom, strengths, and capacity for healing, and that the therapeutic relationship can offer clients the support and space to discover and nurture these qualities within themselves. Drawing from psychodynamic and relational approaches with a trauma-informed lens, Sasha supports clients in exploring the experiences, relationships, and broader contexts that shape their lives with greater curiosity and compassion.

Sasha works with individuals and couples navigating a range of emotional, relational, and existential concerns, including anxiety and depression; challenges with intimacy, partnership and connection; grief; and questions of meaning, purpose, and identity that arise during times of transition and uncertainty.

Sasha holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and rabbinic ordination from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

Sasha sees clients virtually and in person at the 50 Fulton Street location in Manhattan. She can be reached at sbakenrennert@psinyc.org.
