Stéphane Benoist, MHC-LP

Stéphane welcomes clients looking for both healing and growth, offering a warm, holistic approach that honors the balance of mind, heart, body, and spirit. He believes psychotherapy can be a space where a supported, courageous exploration of one’s inner world and relationships can yield deep fruits that last a lifetime.

As a psychotherapist, Stéphane has worked with clients with diverse backgrounds, focusing on questions of belonging, identity and stress as they manifest in a variety of symptoms. He enjoys working with clients in a collaborative way, revealing and nurturing their unseen inner resources and strengths to tackle a range of struggles, including depression, anxiety and relationship issues.

Stéphane’s experience as a meditation practitioner and teacher informs his therapeutic approach. His regular participation in spiritual communities of meditative dialogue and at silent meditation retreats gives him an expertise in techniques of care, mindfulness, and presence that are a powerful complement to psychotherapy.

Stéphane was born and raised in France and worked as a theoretical mathematician, researcher, and teacher in high-pressure environments, including at Columbia University and MIT. He holds a Master’s degree in mental health counseling from Fordham University, as well as a PhD in mathematics from Columbia University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.

Stéphane offers psychotherapy in English and French. He sees clients virtually and in person at the 50 Fulton Street location in Manhattan. He can be reached at sbenoist@psinyc.org.
