Treating Mind and Spirit as One

Test

Anushua Arif, MS

Anushua believes that clients are experts of their own lives. Through a trustful and collaborative therapeutic relationship, individuals can begin the process of gaining control over their thoughts and inner dialogues, in order to create new narratives that will grant them the lives they wish to curate.

As a Bangladeshi emigrant, she is particularly interested in working with individuals and families in marginalized communities, hoping to help those struggling with cultural and religious conflicts, racial and generational trauma, as well as identity crises that may arise from migration and assimilation. She is fluent in Bangla, Hindi and Urdu.

Having grown up in Bangladesh and then attending college and graduate school in the US, Anushua uses her knowledge of both cultures as a therapist and aims to integrate the unique blend of traditional Western education with holistic Eastern influences in her practice. In her therapy sessions she draws from Family Systems and Narrative Theory, alongside incorporating mindfulness techniques, primarily through a strength-based approach.

Anushua is a permit holder in Marriage and Family therapy and provides psychotherapeutic treatment to couples, families and individual clients through teletherapy and in-person at the PSI West Village office.
